Fishing Rod Guide: Where to Get It, Lake Event & Fish Values
Updated 2026-09-02 · Roblox Storage Hunters: Open World
You get a fishing rod from Farmyard auctions. That is the only documented source: the three rods (Scrap Fishing Rod, Fishing Rod, Carbon Fishing Rod) are all Farmyard items, and the Farmyard needs $10,000 net worth to enter. There is no shop that sells one. Win a Farmyard unit, keep the rod instead of selling it, then take it to the Lake.
If you have a rod but "can't fish", the reason is almost always timing. Fish only bite during the Lake's Fishing Event, which lasts 12 minutes. Cast outside the event and the rod usually reels in a normal auction item instead of a fish. Recast the moment you land something so you get as many catches as possible before the timer ends.
Where to get a fishing rod
All three rods come from Farmyard auctions. Rarity decides how often they show up in a unit; the sell value is what the game lists for the item.
| Rod | Value | Rarity | Where it drops |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scrap Fishing Rod | $200 | Rare | Farmyard |
| Fishing Rod | $400 | Epic | Farmyard |
| Carbon Fishing Rod | $600 | Legendary | Farmyard |
Newly found rods roll up to 3 bonus attributes: Fish Speed, Bar Width and Luck, each at a random percentage. Not every roll includes all three. One documented roll on a Scrap Fishing Rod was +29% Bar Width and +25% Luck. Whether the Carbon rod has better base stats than the Scrap rod is not documented yet; the only confirmed differences are value and rarity.
Because the Farmyard is gated at $10,000 net worth, that same milestone is effectively the fishing unlock. The Lake page lists its access requirement as "$10,000 (Fishing Rod)", and the $10,000 net worth milestone also unlocks the Stable Garage and the Fisherman NPC.
How to fish
- Reach $10,000 net worth and win a Farmyard auction that contains a rod.
- Go to the Lake, the map's fishing area. It has no auction containers, just water and one NPC.
- Wait for the Fishing Event. It runs for 12 minutes. Fish do not bite outside it.
- Cast the rod into the water. Each catch goes into your inventory as an item you can sell or keep for the index.
- Recast immediately after every catch until the event ends.
The Events page describes the Fishing Event as allowing fish to be caught "in bodies of water around the map", but the Lake is the only documented fishing area. How long a single bite takes, and what the Fish Speed and Bar Width stats change in the catch minigame, are not documented yet.
Why you can't fish in "fishing season"
The most-searched problem with fishing has three common causes, all covered by the sources:
- No event running. Fish only bite during the 12-minute Fishing Event. Casting between events pulls up regular auction items.
- No rod. The Lake requires a Fishing Rod, and rods only drop in Farmyard auctions, so you need $10,000 net worth first.
- Club daily quest not counting. The Club daily quest "Fish up a set number of Fish" only progresses during an active Fishing Event. Fish reeled up outside it do not count. The Club page colour-codes this objective as a Hard-tier task, which pays +50 XP.
Can you repair a fishing rod?
Not documented yet. No source says that rods lose durability or break. The Repair Store in the Shopping Mall sells wrenches that fix damaged auction items, and every rod's value falls inside the Basic Wrench ($75, repairs items up to $500) or Steel Wrench ($750, up to $5,000) range, so a rod that arrives damaged from an auction should in principle be repairable like any other item, though no source confirms this for rods specifically. Whether a rod can be "broken" by fishing is community-reported, unconfirmed.
All 24 fish and their values
Every fish is a Lake item with the condition "Fishing Event". Values are the listed sell prices from the Lake item data.
| Fish | Value | Rarity |
|---|---|---|
| Guppy Fish | $5 | Uncommon |
| Grass Fish | $8 | Uncommon |
| Butter Fish | $12 | Uncommon |
| Flounder Fish | $16 | Uncommon |
| Red Sea Bream Fish | $20 | Uncommon |
| Salmon Fish | $25 | Uncommon |
| Blue Tang Fish | $40 | Rare |
| Butterfly Fish | $50 | Rare |
| Carp Fish | $60 | Rare |
| Piranha Fish | $70 | Rare |
| Barracuda Fish | $80 | Rare |
| Tuna Fish | $90 | Rare |
| Devil Faced Face Fish | $100 | Rare |
| Clown Fish | $130 | Epic |
| Betta Fish | $150 | Epic |
| Gold Fish | $170 | Epic |
| Koi Fish | $190 | Epic |
| Flying Fish | $210 | Epic |
| Cutlass Fish | $230 | Epic |
| Puffer Fish | $250 | Epic |
| Mola Mola Fish | $320 | Legendary |
| Sail Fish | $380 | Legendary |
| Manta Ray | $440 | Legendary |
| Shark Fish | $500 | Legendary |
Fish are cheap compared with normal auction loot. The Shark Fish, the best catch, is worth $500, and the six Uncommon fish are worth $25 or less. Fishing is for the index rewards, the Fisherman quests and the Club daily objective rather than for money. Whether fish can roll mutations like regular auction items is community-reported, unconfirmed; no fish-specific mutation data is documented.
Lake index rewards
Collecting fish toward the Lake index grants Luck at these thresholds:
| Fish collected | Reward |
|---|---|
| 5 | +5% Luck |
| 24 | +12% Luck |
The Lake page notes that additional milestones exist but have not been documented yet. The index has 24 fish in total.
Fisherman quests
The Fisherman is the caretaker of the Lake and its only NPC. He has the "Caretaker" badge and requires a Fishing Rod (listed as "$10,000 for a Fishing Rod", the Farmyard threshold). His quests are all "fish up" objectives, so they only progress during Fishing Events.
| Quest | Requirement | Rewards |
|---|---|---|
| Worth the Wait | Fish up $4,000 worth of items | 5 Calculators, 5 X-Ray Visions, 5 Kicks, 25 Diamonds |
| Fifty Finds | Fish up 50 items | 30 Diamonds, 1 Luck Drink (tier unknown) |
| Ten Grand Haul | Fish up $10,000 worth of items | 1 Luck Drink 2, 35 Diamonds |
| Hundred Hauls | Fish up 100 items | Not documented yet |
| Fortune Fisher | Fish up $50,000 worth of items (final quest) | 1 Luck Drink 2, 50 Diamonds |
Calculators, X-Ray Visions and Kicks are auction perks. The value-based quests count "worth of items", so the $50,000 Fortune Fisher target takes a long time at fish prices; whether auction items reeled up outside the event count toward the dollar totals is not documented. See the quests page for every other NPC.
Fishing Net and Fishing Boat
These two are auction items, not fishing gear. You cannot fish with them.
| Item | Value | Rarity | Where it drops |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fishing Net | $210 | Uncommon | Lucky Beach |
| Fishing Boat | $66,000 | Legendary | Lucky Beach |
The Fishing Boat is a high-value Lucky Beach find ($66,000, close to the $70,000 Killer Whale), although several Lucky Beach items are worth far more. Both belong to the Lucky Beach index, not the Lake. Boats you can actually drive are on the vehicles page.
"Nothing But Net" is not a fishing quest
Searches for "nothing but net storage hunters" are about the basketball court, not the Lake. Nothing But Net is an achievement earned by scoring a basket from entirely outside the court. Scoring normally also rewards 5 Diamonds per shot, with roughly a 1-hour cooldown between rewarded scores. Neither has anything to do with the Fishing Net item.
